Elizabeth Quay is a mixed-use development project in the Perth central business district. Focusing on an area located on the north shore of Perth Water near the landmark Swan Bells, the precinct being developed by the project was named in honour of the former Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee.
The Swan Bells, housed in the bell tower in the background, are a set of 18 bells hanging in a specially built 82.5-metre-high copper and glass campanile. The tower is commonly known as The Bell Tower, or the Swan Bell Tower.
The St Martin in the Fields Bells were gifted to the people of Western Australia to commemorate Australia's bicentenary in 1988. Patron of the Bell Tower, Mr Laith Reynolds, was the one who saved the St Martin-in-the-Fields Bells from being melted down to form new ones, as they had become too heavy for the ancient foundations of the church in Trafalgar Square, London.
