This is one of the white rhinos reintroduced to the area adjacent to Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe in 2022. It is a community-based effort to reintroduce the white rhino to the area, after having been eradicated due to hunting and poaching. The white rhino is the world’s largest land animal after the elephant. ‘White’ does not describe its color, which is grey, but may derive from the Dutch word wijd and refer to its ‘wide’ mouth – an adaptation for grazing.
