Description
Found this western rosella on my deck, obviously stunned. It had probably flown into my kitchen window - as they do and looking at the state of some of its chest feathers. Anyway it didn't mind me getting up real close to it to take its photo and then flew off into blue yonder.
The western rosella, or moyadong, is a species of parrot endemic to southern Western Australia. The head and underparts are bright red, and the back is mottled black; a yellow patch at the cheek distinguishes it from others of the genus Platycercus.

It does look a little "out of it"! But a very nice shot.

Oh he was Bette. Poor thing just sat there for quite a while. Thanks for your comment Bette.

That's a good idea ... I'm happy to hear it's helping!! We actually had to put a rather large wooden owl on the base of one of the stone pillars on our front porch. Our wreathes that we decorate the front door with attract nesting birds all the time. The problem isn't so much the inconvenience of not being able to use the front door, but it's the horror that occurs when big bad birdies decide it's lunch time. Sigh. So the owl has worked.

Oh the little sweetie!!! We have birdies do the same now and then ... it's always such a relief when they recover and return to the trees!!! Your birdie is gorgeous!!! So colorful!!! l/f
Elaine Teague replied:
Thank you Lois. Since I've put a fake bird on a stick outside the window, it hasn't been so much of a problem.
