Description
Attempts at mining over the years led to the conclusion that the coal here was not of a high enough quality to mine profitably. In 1978 the coal reserve was vested with the Shire of Mingenew “for the preservation of natural features.” It became Coalseam Conservation Park in 1994. Among the park’s significant natural values is a Threatened Ecological Community. You are within this community when walking under the sparse canopy of York Gums (Eucalyptus loxopleba) along the Plateau Loop Trail.
